Writing
Fiction
Now that I come to think about it, I have written stories all my life. My best friend and I used to build worlds. We'd draw enormous maps on vast sheets of paper and then describe the countries down to the finest detail. We used to role play stories together before we even knew what Dungeons and Dragons was. I think my need to so exhaustively define the worlds I write in stems from this period in my life. For me, half the fun of writing the story is in the creation of a coherent world to set it in. My inclination towards the speculative in my fiction is, perhaps, also related to these early scribblings. Currently I am working seriously on one short story and two novellas, but I have a few other projects lurking in the back of my mind.

Poetry
My poetry, on the other hand, strives for realism. I am a big fan of the wave of American poets from the 1950s (such as Robert Lowell, Robert Frost, Elizabeth Bishop, and so on) who defined confessional poetry in its purest and most beautiful form. I am not a prolific writer of poetry, and I believe each piece should be crafted and refined and honed. As such, the pieces published here will most likely change yet.

Criticism
My degree was in English Literature and as such I have been required to develop a questioning mind when it comes to books. I have decided to publish some of my favourite essays - including my dissertation, which was on the Titus trilogy by Mervyn Peake - here, and hopefully add to the collection as I read more.
